Overview of PowerEdit
functionality
What is PowerEdit?
PowerEdit is an add-in for Microsoft Excel that provides
additional copy and paste functionality Excel. The additional functionality
includes:
· Exact formula copies
When a formula is copied using the built-in Excel
functionality the references within the formula are ‘relatively’ moved
according to the $ anchoring specified in the formula. When the Exact Formula
Copy feature is used to copy a formulae an exact copy of the formula is made
regardless of the $ anchoring specified.
· Copies are persistent
When a cell area is copied using the built-in Excel
functionality, the copy action is cancelled when a change is made to the
spreadsheet (e.g. you enter some text in a cell). When the PowerEdit Copy
feature is used the copy remains on the PowerEdit clipboard for as long as the
workbook where the cells have been copied from remains open.
· Multi area copy facility
The built-in Excel Copy functionality has very restrictive
rules over what types of multiple area cell selections can be copied. PowerEdit
Copy can copy any type of multi area cell selection.
· Choice of layout options when pasting
When pasting copied cell areas that contained more than
one area, the user is presented with choices of layout.
· Copy Special
With the PowerEdit Copy Special feature it is possible to
only copy:
1. The cells containing formulae
within the selected cells, or
2. The cells containing constants
within the selected cells, or
3. The visible cells.
· Undo
All PowerEdit operations can be ‘undone’ using the
standard Excel method (i.e. clicking ‘Edit’->’Undo’)
